Revolution

The Cuban revolution was a life changing event for those involved in the art and business of TV production. The hopes were high in the aftermath of the triumph of the guerrilla movement, but the course of the events soon led to polarized positions. Some people embraced enthusiastically the ideals and plans of the new government, but many others were seriously troubled by their goals and methods. What followed was the nationalization of all radio and TV stations (1960), and the exile of not just the media owners, but also of thousands of actors, writers, producers, and technicians. An experience involving displacement, family separation, and re-settlement.

The following images are a few snapshots of the early days of the revolution, as they were seen in Cuban media–Bohemia, Radiolandia, and other periodicals.
